Michael Caine’s Friends Warned Him Cuban Restaurant Could Anger People
Acting veteran Sir Michael Caine scrapped plans to expand his restaurant empire to Cuba, amid fears he would face violent opposition for supporting anti-U.S. revolutionary Fidel Castro. The Brit moved his restaurant empire stateside in the 1990s when he opened his sixth eatery, Miami's South Beach Brasserie - and admits he was keen to expand south to the Caribbean nation.
But a Cuban friend persuaded him to axe the idea amid concerns the actor would face angry protests for appearing to support the regime of the country's former president. He explains, "I had this restaurant in South Beach a long time ago, I owned this restaurant and I had a Cuban friend."
"I said to him, 'I'm thinking of going to Cuba,' and he said, 'Don't.' I said, 'Why not?' He said, 'They will burn your restaurant down if you go to Cuba... (for) being friendly to Castro'."
On Thursday, October 28, a Los Angeles County jury convicted Anna Nicole Smith's psychiatrist Dr. Khristine Eroshevich and boyfriend Howard K. Stern of conspiring to use false names to get the actress' prescriptions, Associated Press reported. Smith's doctor Dr. Sandeep Kapoor who became third defendant, however, was acquitted on all counts against him.
Eroshevich was convicted of using a false name and misrepresentation to obtain prescriptions for the painkiller Vicodin for Smith. Meanwhile, Stern was found guilty of giving false names and acting by fraud to obtain prescriptions. Kapoor, who prescribed most of Smith's pain medications, was acquitted of all six counts.
Of his triumph, emotional Kapoor said outside the court, "This is not just a victory for me, but for patients everywhere who suffer chronic pain." His attorney, Ellyn Garofalo, believed the same thing, saying "It was a victory for Anna Nicole Smith. This jury did not find she was an addict."
As for Stern, who originally faced 11 counts of conspiracy but was later convicted of only two conspiracy counts, told reporters, "Everything relating to the appropriateness of the medication, I was acquitted of." Stern's lawyer, Steve Sadow, claimed his client never denied using his name on Smith's prescriptions but insisted Stern didn't know it was illegal.
Eroshevich, in the meantime, said she felt "relieved" and "just happy it's over." Both she and Stern remained free pending a January 6 hearing when the defense can file a motion for a new trial. If the motion is denied, the judge can sentence the two although it was not immediately clear how much prison time, if any, they could face.
Moreover, Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley was also pleased with the result. Cooley said in a statement, "This case illustrates the problem of the overuse of prescription medicine in today's society. Medical professionals have a responsibility to ensure that the strict ethical guidelines of their profession are followed in prescribing medicine as part of the care of their patients."

McCoy was taken into custody and later released on $2,080 (GBP1,390) bail. The singer will have a hard time pleading not guilty to charges - he pre-announced his graffiti attack on his Twitter blog, writing, "The Berlin wall. I'm def gettin up on this before we leave tonight!!!"
He then posted pictures of his artwork, which included his name in bubbled lettering. McCoy faces a maximum sentence of three years in jail.

Magazine Editor Thinks It Is 'Terrible Mistake' Putting LeAnn Rimes on the Cover
The editor-in-chief of fitness magazine Shape has apologized to readers for putting singer LeAnn Rimes on the October cover of the publication. Valerie Latona has called the decision to publish bikini shots and an interview with Rimes, who split from husband Dean Sheremet in 2009 following an affair with married actor Eddie Cibrian, a "terrible mistake".
In an email sent to some readers and obtained by TooFab.com, the editor wrote, "Please know that our putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal, but to show (through her story) how we all are human. And this woman in particular found strength in exercise in what she said was her most difficult personal moment."
"It did not come across that way... and for that I'm terribly sorry. I hope that we can do better the next time for those of you that will give us another chance." The email comes after many Shape readers complained about the cover story.

Carey Mulligan Accompanyed by Believed-to-Be Tom Sturridge at Gala
Carey Mulligan may have found a new love in fellow star Tom Sturridge. Carey, who has been widely rumored ending her relationship with Shia LaBeouf but not yet confirmed about the split, was spotted with a bearded male companion, believed to be Tom, after the 14th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala on Monday, October 25, Daily Mail reported.
Dressed in a maroon draped Giles silk dress and peep toe heels, Carey looked stunning despite putting on minimal make-up and sporting unkempt hair. Tom, in the meantime, may have grown his beard for his role in upcoming movie "On the Road" in which he stars opposite Kristen Stewart, the rumored girlfriend of his best pal Robert Pattinson.
Carey and Tom were seen leaving the event which was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California with the same taxi. Both sitting in the back seat, the couple apparently refused to have snapper capturing them as the two bowed their heads.
This wasn't the first time Carey and Tom were spotted together following the split rumor. Words on the street are the two were caught together at low-budget hotel Best Western, where the actress has been staying while filming her upcoming movie "Drive". Daily Mail further reported that Carey stayed in the hotel after moving out of the 1.8 million pound sterling New York apartment she had shared with Shia.
While Carey and Shia, who began dating in 2009, haven't confirmed about the separation, sources told People that the two called it quits "some time ago." Before the split rumor broke, Shia was romantically linked to his "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" on-screen lover Rosie Huntington-Whiteley despite the fact that the actress has been dating Jason Statham for months.
A friend told Daily Mail that Carey visited the set of "Transformers 3" in Chicago in a bid to save her relationship with Shia but failed. "Things went from bad to worse. They broke up because Shia said they were both too busy with their careers," a source was quoted as saying. "When 'Drive' finishes filming she plans to return to the U.K. and split her time between her parents' house in Buckinghamshire, and her brother Owain's place in London."
